September 2011

Welcome, my friend, to September’s Journey of Plein Air 365â„¢, 2011,

I know I’m a bit late on getting this one out. I don’t know how it happened, but with the kid’s school in full force, time just flew by. Before I knew it, the month had disappeared.

I hope everyone had a great month! September for me is a special month. I have a birthday, and most importantly, it’s my anniversary. This year I celebrated my 20th anniversary with my lovely wife Lori.

As far as painting goes, September is the month of the great Denver Plein Air Event that I look forward to each year. This year I had two paintings accepted into the show. I would like to invite you to the Opening Night Reception, November 15, at the Denver Library on the 7th floor from 5-9 p.m. Please join us if you can.

September also brings the beginning of the wonderful fall colors. As a painter, the next two months are some of the best times of the year to paint. The ranges can go from glowing flowers to orange, red and wonderful warm yellow aspens and cottonwoods, and all the way to vibrant greens and chilly cool blue shadows with the fresh snowfall. It was a wonderful month!

September is also the month of the annual Friendship Pow Wow at the Denver Art Museum. I spent the day there painting, and what a great Pow Wow it wa! From a painters view it was great to try and paint the dancers as they go by. It made me almost feel like I was back at art school. Paint quickly, no time to think, just capture moving color, you have 1 minute, go! I made many new friends and saw a few old ones as well. As part Native American myself, I did a trade for one of the most meaningful hats I have ever seen. If you haven’t been to a Pow Wow, or if you have and enjoyed the dancing, singing, and the most important fry bread, plan on attending next year’s September Friendship Pow Wow, where admission is free but donations are welcome.

That’s about it for September. I hope you enjoy the journey as much as I did. October is following soon!

Best Regards,

Ted
