September 2009
Hello my friends,
Welcome to September’s journey of Plein Air 365. With September here and gone, that now puts me at just over 3/4 of the way done. 274 paintings along with 274 new locations that I have been so fortunate to visit and try to capture on canvas.
September has always been a busy and exciting month for me, and this year was no exception. It started with my 42nd birthday on the second. That was followed by the Golden Triangle Plein Air event that was held in Denver. I have been lucky enough to have three pieces selected into the show. This was a two week long plein air painting competition that gave the artist a chance to paint the downtown Denver area as well as a few other places. The opening show will be held at the Denver Public Library, Level 7, November 10 from 6-9 pm. Please visit the show and see all the great art, meet the artists, and have a glass of wine. I would also like to say thank you Christine Serr for coordinating such a fantastic event.
My next big day was the 13th, this was my chance to celebrate my 18th wedding anniversary with my beautiful wife Lori. It was also on this day that I had a chance to paint at Kimberly and Dan Moore’s charming home in Morrison, CO. This was part of the Paint, Sculpt, Shoot of Evergreen. It was also the first day we had snow on Mt. Evans. From the Moore’s cabin, there is a stunning view of Mt. Evans, so I couldn’t resist to try my best to capture it. I call it, “First Snow on Mt. Evans”, which by the way is one of the twelve winners for the Paint, Sculpt, Shoot 2010 calendar for the Center for the Arts Evergreen.
Next big day (what another one?), actually it was a weekend, I was a participating artist during the Open Door Studio Tour of Evergreen. This is an annual event when 30 artists open their studio doors to the public. It gives the public a chance to see how and where the artists create their work, as well as a chance to talk and ask questions and maybe even get a deal on an original piece of art. We alone had over 150 visitors to our studio. I share a cozy little home studio with my wife. After months of preparation for just one weekend out of the year, this event is quite tiring, but very rewarding. Thanks to all of you that helped!
I would also like to let you know that I am now showing at two new galleries, the first is called Leap of Faith in Ft. Collins. The opening reception will be the First Friday art walk in Old Downtown, 148 West Oak Street, Ft. Collins. www.leapoffaithgallery.com. We would love to see you there! I am honored to also be accepted to show in Frisco Fine Art Gallery in downtown Frisco, 101 East Main Street. If you are in there skiing or just visiting, please drop in and say “Hi” to the Koentges.
One last thing, I would like to say thank you to my new web designer, Linzi Garcia. Yes, my 13 year old extraordinary daughter for the last few months has been updating my web site. Something I still can’t do and appreciate all her work. Thank you Linzi!
I hope everyone has had a great fall so far. Have a safe and fun Halloween. We will see you at the end of October’s journey.
Best Wishes,
Ted Garcia
