September 2013
Welcome, my friends, to September’s 2013 Plein Air 365â„¢,
September was another month of great locations to paint for the Colorado Plein Air Competition. Even though we had and a week of heavy rains with many homes being lost, along with state wide flooding, there was still plenty of wonderful things to paint.
September here in the Rockies is the start of the fall colors and with all of the rain, there was some amazing early fall colors. This month I decided to paint at the Colorado Train Museum. This is a great place to go if you’re a train buff. There is a huge variety of trains to enjoy. I chose to paint one of the train cars that I have admired for years. I call it the “The Original Silver Bullet.” There was also one of the sponsor locations that I’ve been wanting to paint for years, the Fossil Ridge Dinosaur museum. This is where I had the chance to paint “High Tailing Iguanodon”.
I also had the chance to paint at the Meininger Cabin (of Meininger Art Supply of Denver) in Bailey. What a great home this was to paint, full of angles and shadows. It was a joy as well as a challenge to any painter. Being in the cool mountain air and among the golden aspens was a great bonus to the day. I would like to say thank you to the Meininger Family for being gracious and opening up their wonderful home, as well as feeding all the artists.
The month ended with a day of painting at The Fort. This is another one of Colorado’s great landmarks. The Fort is another great structure to paint. Tucked among the pines and red rocks and full of that 1860s adobe fort feel. I would also like to say thank you to The Fort for opening up their doors to the artists as well as providing a wonderful artist reception. The food was delicious and the company delightful, thank you Holly!
PLEASE JOIN US FOR THE OPENING RECEPTION of the Colorado Plein Air Festival at the DENVER PUBLIC LIBRARY, NOVEMBER 12, 2013 • 5-9PM. See attached for details. Art Opening details. Event details: http://gtmd.org/colorado-plein-air/
Once again there is so much more that I could tell you about each painting from this month, but for now please sit back, relax, and I hope you enjoy September’s journey as much as I did painting it.
May love fill your heart and art fill your world.
Best Regards,
Ted
