August 2011

Hello, and welcome to August’s Journey of Plein Air 365â„¢,

What a great time I had during August and I hope your August was just as enjoyable.

The month started with a two week painting trip to Wyoming for two plein air events. The Wyoming Plein Air Event held by Link Gallery, and the Prairie to Peaks Plein Air Event sponsored by Deselms Fine Arts Gallery. It was a fantastic show with a great variety of scenes that really showed the beauty of the various landscapes that Wyoming is so well known for. I would like to say thank you to everyone that came to Cheyenne to see the show and to give your wonderful, kind support.

I spent 4 days in the Snowy Range, and camped in my mobile studio at a little over 10,000 feet. I had the chance to walk barefoot across a sub-alpine meadow who’s flowering plants were over 70 years old. What an experience! I also saw my first moose. Actually it was two bulls one day and the next day as I was painting at the top of Snowy Range, another moose decided to walk into my scene to graze. I couldn’t pass up the chance to paint a moose en Plein Air. Wow, I love painting outside!

After the show, it was time to head home. I enjoy traveling, but there is truly no place like home, and it was great to be there. It also meant that it was time to paint for the Golden Triangle Plein Air Event. This is another fun month of plein air painting for me. It is a complete 180° from what I had just been painting. It can be a strange change going from trees and flowers for two weeks to painting the urban environment. The trees are replaced by street lights, the mountains ranges with skyscrapers and the roar of the river becomes the sound of the busy streets. Once again, I must say I love painting outside.

Now the weather is changing and there is a chill in the air. The kids are off to school and we have seen our first snow in the high country. Fall is almost here and I can’t wait to paint the turning Aspens. But until next month, I hope you have a wonderful last bit of summer and please enjoy August’s journey of Plein Air 365â„¢.

Thank you,
Ted Garcia
