March 2012
Welcome, my friends, to March and April’s journey of Plein Air 365, 2012,
I hope you are off to a great spring. I bet your wondering “March, April?”… yes, this is a two month letter. With computer problems, illness and a list of other problems that have plagued me for the past few months made it impossible, until now, to get this out.
Despite all the woes, March was a great month to paint. It was a month of thawing out and actually getting to paint without my thermal pants and a sub zero coat. March also brought a new change to my painting palette, warm colors! It was the fist month that we could actually see the ground free of snow! March also brought the chance to paint some buffalo in a place I would have never thought there would be any buffalo, on the Rocky Mountain Arsenal. I grew up next to the Arsenal and I would have never thought there would be buffalo there. But to my surprise, and delight, I had a chance not only to see the Arsenal buffalo but also a chance to paint them, what a great sight! March is also special for my family, it my son’s birth month. We celebrated his 19th birthday this year and as I was painting on his birthday it made me stop and think of all the wonderful things that have happened to me in those past 19 years. Thank you, big guy!
Now, onto April. April was the beginning of spring colors, and it was great to finally have some color to paint. My paintings tend to be bolder when painting with spring colors. April is full of those colorful spring trees, ranging from lime green to full blown red, pink and white blossoms. Then there is all the wonderful flowers that are spouting and blooming, including one of my favorite flowers to paint… Lilacs! Ever since the first time I painted these charming flowers, I can’t seem to get enough of them. Painting lilacs is like painting a creek for me, I don’t think I will ever tire of either one of them.
Well that’s all for now, but May is looking like another month full of surprises and more color to paint. Until then, please sit back and enjoy March and April’s journey.
Best wishes,
Ted
May love fill your heart and art fill your life.
